’ My journey to spirituality has been an interesting one... ’

'My name is Emily, also known as Solar Sister Tarot....

My journey to spirituality has been an interesting one and something I never expected to do. I trained as an actor back in 2012 in London and thought I knew exactly where I was headed. But the Universe seemed to have other ideas.

I began to be interested in the supernatural at a young age. I’ve visited mediums before and have always been a ‘believer’. In 2013, I picked up my first pack of tarot cards. I was playing the role of a Madam Arcarti in ‘Blithe Spirit’ and thought it was probably important I did a bit of Method Acting. I played around with the cards but often felt frustrated about memorising the card. They ended up in the back of a drawer and I would play with them from time to time but never really felt a strong connection. I often wonder if this was the true beginning of my spiritual awakening.’

'I had a few experiences in quick succession...

including house sitting for a family with a very volatile spirit. I was locked in the bathroom daily, knocks, scratches and bangs were a regular occurrence. A psychic friend of mine came to stay and said she saw a girl in the mirror of the bathroom (the one that was continuously locked into). The whole situation was very scary and it made my sceptical boyfriend a believer. Another experience was in my student flat which was a lot more comforting. I sensed a presence quite often and felt like someone was always leaning over my shoulder.

One night, me and all 3 of my flat mates were standing in the kitchen and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a man in a white shirt walking down the hallway. I felt strangely calm about it and didn’t divulge this information to my house mates til much later for fear of them thinking I was crazy! After a visit to a psychic, I was told this spirit was a young man called Elijah who had taken a liking to the flat and the female energy. I reminded him of his sister so he liked to hang out there. I felt this comforting and I enjoyed having this warm and protective spirit around.

In 2015, I unexpectedly lost my mother after a short illness. She was 55 years old. My world was turned upside down in so many ways. I was only 26 and had just graduated from university. This is an unsettling time for most people but I truly felt incredibly lost and vulnerable. I often told my mum about ghostly experiences I’d had in pasts and she always said I had ‘a gift’. At the time, I shrugged it off. A few days after my mum passed, me and my brother were sitting quietly at home. I felt a sudden gust of cold air in the room. Like someone had opened a window on a cold December evening. I took my breathe away and we both knew it was my mum’s way of telling us she was still around. I personally took it as a sign to continue this path of enlightenment and remember what she told me.

'Not long after this event, I began using Angel Tarot cards...

I found their messages very sweet and positive. It was only for personal use but I found this comforting. I think this is one of the best places to start for beginners.

In 2019, I had one of the most eye opening spiritual experiences to date. I was chatting with a friend in my flat. We were having a very deep conversation and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a man standing on the stairs in the corner of the room. The man was standing proudly with a broad chest and was dressed all in white. I glanced back and he was gone. I was incredibly shaken up and it was like my senses had gone into overdrive. I heard a low male voice in my ear making an inaudible noise and I felt like the whole room was spinning. It felt like the sensation of a busy pub and energy was swirling around the room. I know after some research that this was my third eye opening because of the concentrated and intense conversation.

'I’ve had migraine with aura for about 10 years on and off...

I usually have bouts of them and then they go away. Doctors told me its stress induced and to lay off certain foods. The thing that they couldn’t explain was why I experienced next to no pain. These have been more frequent up until I began Tarot. I know now, this was another symptom of a spiritual awakening.

In April 2020, I started a meditation and yoga course. A lady on the course was offering tarot card sessions and I explained to her that I had a deck but never really learnt how to read. She offered a technique to me which blew my mind. It was like light bulb went off and I knew this was my calling. Not long after this, a friend got in contact with me to ask if I knew any tarot readers. I suggested a few people then tentatively said ‘I’m a beginner’. My friend insisted I do the reading and that she would pay me. I had been shoved off the spring board into the deep end but I took to it like a duck to water. It all seemed to come so naturally and I felt real connection to what I was doing. Almost like I’d done it before.

Unfortunately in July 2020 I was made redundant from my job at the theatre. It started to make me really consider what I want to do and what makes me happy. I decided enough was enough!

I had fallen out of love with London and I had to breathe fresh air. I decided Manchester would be my next step. It’s somewhere I can really see myself and I knew now was the time.

In the meantime, I took the leap of faith and started my Instagram page. I thought a handful of friends might be interested. However, I was inundated with people messaging me for a reading. People I never expected to be curious about tarot or all things mystical have followed my page and it’s growing everyday. The great thing is that I can work from home. So I don’t have the worry of going into an office everyday. My message to anyone wondering what direction to go after COVID would be to follow your heart and do what lights you up. Life is short!

My aim of Solar Sister Tarot is to be an approachable as possible and for my readings to feel like a chat with a friend. I’m not here to tell the future. I’m here to help you look at things from a different perspective.

My motto for starting to learn Tarot is: You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great. .'
